Log Ten Pro X
I have to agree with a lot of the reviewers complaining about the subscription pricing instituted for the iPad and iPhone apps. I grudgingly paid the $99 cost for the Mac program, but there is no way I will pay a $30 one-time fee along with a $50/yr “subscription” for the mobile apps. There is simply not enough functionality to justify the cost. I don’t really need the electronic signature pad and syncing just isn’t all that big of a deal to me, with the realtively low amount of flying I do.
The main reason I went with LogTen Pro was that it was a native Mac program. I happily used Windows based Logbook Pro running in Parallels for a number of years. It did a fine job as a logbook and had a MUCH better method of tracking currency, including BFR and Medical, for each class, cataegory, and day/night. LogTen pro runs reasonably quickly, has been pretty relaible, and has a solid basic logbook functionality. I think the currency tracking function is very weak because it is hard to configure. I would also like better control of the columns displayed in the Logbook screen. The slew of reports available are generally useless to me as I am not a professional pilot.
I am still reasonably happy with the Mac program (would probably rate it 3 stars), but I refuse to buy into the mobile pricing model. No more money from me,unless something improves.
