LogTen Pilot Log App Reviews

The things that could be more ...

And are content to be less. This logbook works pretty well and as a flight instructor, I use this app on my Mac and on my iPad pretty much every day. I know it very well and quite simply, the quirks, bugs, and missing features are maddening. First, there should be a way for an instructor to enter details for a flight ONCE, then share that version with their student and sign that entry. Instead, I have to enter a flight TWICE: Once on my iPad, once on my student’s iPad. This feature has been "on request” for years and has yet to be implemented. For students that have gone "all electronic" and need an endorsement for a practical test, I can enter a “certificate” for them and sign it, but it’s not really a certificate it is? It’s an ENDORSEMENT. Oh, and you can’t read the remarks text of the endorsement unless you remove the signature. I dutifully record block-out and block-in times, but the automatic calculation of night time is sporadic at best. Lastly, their web site says if you have a feature request, just ask and the answer is “yes.” Actually, it’s seldom “yes.” The response I consistently get is “The development team will review this, but no guarantees …” All this wouldn’t be so frustrating if the app wasn’t sooooo close to being the ideal logbook app and if the pricing structure was not at such a premium. A premium price should result in a premium product. Needs work ...

Could be better, but its better than what I had

I have the ability to write applications, and I have been keeping my logbook in a database-backed web application of my own creation, but I dont have the time to make it what Id like it to be. I decided it was worth $100 to save me hours of working on something that may not ever pay off. There are still significant fixes to be made to this application. I actually got a refund after my initial purchase because it just wasnt working, and I needed my logbook printed for an interview. I stuck with my web application, which got the job done. But after working with this application a bit more and trying out the iOS version, I decided its worth the money, and have paid for it again. The report printing capability is what really got me hooked. I have managed to create a CSV exporter and customized one of the logbook report templates to fit what I need, and there is probably even more that I could do. That said, I dont entirely trust this application - I still see glitches here and there, and the companys history is a little troublesome when it comes to their upgrade pricing. For that reason, I will continue to do regular exports to CSV and archive those files in case I need to fire up my own application again.

What a rip off...

This was supposed to be the greatest logbook avialible, so I had no problem dropping nearly $100 on it, now I have to pay a subscription every month to be able to sync it between my phone, ipad and macbook… Coradine, you have just lost a customer. BTW, could you make the software more difficult to use? This may be “the most powerful logbook ever”, but its also the most difficult/annoying/complex program to use also. I have EP’s and Limits to memorize, I dont have time to take a college level course or wait for your tech support to figure out how to sync a logbook.

Too little for too much.

Short Story: I really wanted to like this Program. Really. But sadly, I stick with it not because I am happy with it, but because I started with it, and it is a devil I know. Long Story: Nice try, but needs some more polishing: Combine the cost of the OSX App and the iOS App with the quirks of the application that include, but are not limited to: - Not automatically consistently refreshing totals, - lack of WYSIWIG editor for custom reports - lack of rule set up or scripting (Talking about if— that…. then….. that type of stuff to make manual entries easier) which I would absolutely expect for an app that charges me twice) - The autofill that is included being obtrusive to the point where I had to switch it off - Some limitations in the smart group filtering (try editing filters: it will lose settings in the process, inability to add boolean exclusion (NOT) ), - Some field entries not propagating to the reports (e.g. Approach 2 and forthfollwoing don’t make it into any of the included report templates) ….to name a few, and then asking me: „Do you love this app?“ led me to say: „I mereley tolerate it“. One word on the promised „Fanatic Customer Support“: While competent, polite, and helpful, do not expect quick turnaround. Sorry. I wish I could write a glowing review, but I can’t. If I had the energy to start over with a different logbook solution, I quite probably would. You, dear reader, may give it a whirl and possibly find it acceptable. It may be the logbook solution for anyone else, for me it is hard to swallow in its current state. My advice is: 1) Try many solutions before you buy any of the solutions on the market. 2) Always keep at least 2 backups. Plainly keeping your logbook in hosted storage aka „The Cloud“ does not count as backup.

Good but overpriced app with very little customer support

I have been using this app for quite awhile and I actually love it. But, as mentioned elsewhere here, the price for existing customers is over the top. And when you need customer support you have to wait days for a response. For the price paid I should be able to get something other than a generic response that directs me to tutorials that don’t solve the problem. Newsflash: I am the customer with an app that continually crashes. Customer support needs to learn a few things. As it stands now I have a worthless app that I am paying good money for. I guess I am the stupid one here.

Nothing else comes close to LogTen

A truely outstanding app that’s been built from the ground up for Mac OS X, and you can tell.

So far so good

With the new subscription model pricing I was hoping for frequent updates and new features. LogTen Pro has lived up to that promise. Keep up the good work and keep those new features coming.

Poor Support

Program is pretty good. VERY DISAPPOINTED IT THE SUPPORT. They started charging an annual fee last year, which I understand, they need to make money. However, they said they needed to do this help support their products. The only way to contact them is through “discussions” on their web page. I am currently on day 5, my dad on day 6, of waiting for a response. Neither of us have working logbooks while they take their time getting back to us. The iCloud sync has never consistently worked properly. Sometimes it takes a few minutes, other times days. Sometimes it says “Last Sync: Just now” yet it doesn’t update any of the data from my iPhone where I have logged flights. I’m getting pretty disappointed and frustrated with this company.

No Support!

Despite all the negative reviews, I purchased anyway. Now I understand all the negative reviews. There is no support. I have requested support many times and get zero response from this company. I would consider other logbook options if in the market. You will be on your own with this one if you need support.

Overpriced

Recently bought a new iPad. Restoring from previous was easy except for LogTen Pro. iCloud sync is a mess; Coradine blames this on iCloud, but this problem does not seem to exist in any other app, in my experience. I recently received a email from Coradine: "For those renewing their LogTen Pro X for iOS in the next few weeks, the first step is to make sure you have a valid Coradine Account so all the options are available to you. To ensure you have an account, open LogTen Pro X, tap on More, then on Settings, then on Account. NOTE: If you have an existing auto-renewing subscription, be sure to turn off auto-renewal in your iTunes account! Since I purchased my subscription through iTunes, I have no idea what they are talking about. I recently flew with a First Officer who had not updated the MacOs on his MacBook since he had purchased LogTen several times already. He was tired of paying for useless “upgrades,” and convinced that updating his OS would “break” his logbook. If you can find an alternative, go for it!

Sync Latency

I like the ability to sync between iOS and OS X platforms, but there is huge latency in the syncs. If my devices are online and I enter data on one I want to see it on the other platform quickly. In lieu of an instant sync give us a sync button so we can force one—on all platforms.

Program needs lots of improvement.

I really want to stay with this Logten pro system (for my mac and iPad) but i can’t stand anymore. there are some reasons why i can’t stay with this program. 1. when i import my previous log data from CSV file, it misses a lot of items. (it imports only 30%) 2. as i select all log data to delete it (around 8000 flight), program crashes(overflow). 3. and keep crashing… this program is very unstable and do not recommend for keeping our own important flight history.

Keeps getting worse

I’ve used this application in its many versions for quite some time but I have to say it just keeps getting more confusing, buggy, and expensive. I had it since version 5 was around and I think 6. Those were great, easy to use and very straight forward, much like the simple interface of Logbook Pro. In addition it runs as a normal Mac program rather than runnning Fusion or something else to trick it into being windows. As it got popular, they came out with newer versions that led into this one (X) that you had to pay more and more for in order to sync and backup, all while making the program more and more aggrivating to use. For example, the older versions had a window in the bottom that you could literally input anything that pertained with that particular flight, not only the things like time and landings that you can normally just type right into the log but also values that you don’t always use, like simulator time or a hold. Now in order to enter this I have to totally reconfigure the logbook to display columns for for these values, enter them in, and then reconfigure it back to the way it was. It takes twice as much time to input something that you don’t always log as it did before. Now the annual subscription is ending, they want $40 more a year unless I buy it in 3 year blocks. I will not be renewing or upgrading unless they turn this program around to the way it used to be.

Professional app for professional pilots

As a professional pilot this is a professional app I use everyday. I need a logging app that is updated and works. LogTen Pro is that application suite.

Indispensable app with top notch support

Just a general aviation pilot and enthusiast here. The value that LogTen Pro X provides far outweighs the initial cost. Using paper logbooks, I used to have to painstakingly add up all my different hours for ratings and insurance applications. Now with minimal effort, I can see totals for virtually any kind of hours that I need, saving me sanity and time. The iOS app subscription is an amazing companion to the Mac app, and it costs less than my Netflix subscription. Love this app!!

Great program

The program is outstanding and the people who designed it and aid customers are even better! Email responses to problems are timely. Just my opinion, but I believe most of the problems are self generated. Take the time to watch the videos and just enter the data…reports can include all your time or you can choose specific time periods. If you can generate a CVS file, data entry is even faster. Custom reports can be generated too. Fly safe!!!

Very lacking in data retention, especially when using iCloud

I lost about a years worth of my flights when attempting to merge with iCloud. Fortunately, I export my logs regularly, but importing them back into the software was too much of a burden. I just ended up formatting my data for import into ForeFlight Logbook, which offers simpler import/export options even though the product just came out. The bugginess of this software is just not worth the money, especially for someone who only flies a few dozen times per year.

First Impressions

I started out with a paper logbook and when I became a professional 135 pilot I transferred all my time to Logbook Pro. I have been using Logbook Pro for the last 8 years. About two years ago I switched all my computers, phones, tablets to Apple. I didn’t want to partition my hard so I could run Windows on my computer so I kept an old Windows lab top around just to do my logbook. That got old fast but I didn’t want to spend the $100 to buy a new logbook program for my Mac. I finally broke down and paid the $100 for LogTen Pro X and I wish I would of done it earlier. I contacted Coradine about transferring my data from logbook pro to LogTen and they said it was no problem. I sent them the file and a few days later I got an email containing my new look book. Opened up LogTen and everything transferred correctly. Playing around with the setup I was able to get my logbook to look the way I wanted. There is a ton more information you can enter in LogTen. The reports are much more detailed. I have to generate times for various reasons throughout the year with Logbook Pro I was always writing numbers down, adding them up to get the correct numbers for the forum but no longer with LogTen. I keep a paper Jeppesen style logbook around just as a backup to the backup and LogTen generates a very nice Jeppesen style logbook. What I like the best about LogTen X Pro is I was able to download it on to my main house iMac and my MacBook Air for no extra charge. The data syncs so weather I enter logs at home or on my MacBook Air when I am on the road that data always syncs and is current. I cannot speak for the iPhone/iPad version where you have to pay and annual fee. From reading the reviews that is where it seams most of the problems are.

Buggy and sync doesn’t work

The app has a lot of potential but a poor, overly complex UI and severe quality issues around synchronization make it all but unusable. The general UI is set up well and it offers a very large amount of flexibility for what data to log, how to list and report on it and how to export it. Unfortunately the UI has gotten more and more complex over time and at this point has become hard to navigate. Synchronization works via iCloud and is very buggy. I am synchronzing between an iPad, iPhone and MacBook and over the past year it happened several times that one device would stop syncing. Deleting the application from the device and setting it up again would sometimes fix the issue, however in one instance it was necessary to export all data, wipe all of the icloud data and re-install on all devices. Sync issues happened every few weeks to months. This lack of stability makes the app too high maintenanc for me. I will likely migrate to Foreflight’s logging system.

Poor business practices

I had a previous version of Log Ten Pro and would sync between my devices with only some trouble. When this new version came out, the sync feature stopped working on the older version altogther. Frustrated that I could not access all the flights on my iPad, I paid the $99 (What I thought WAS the subscription price) hoping this new version would be less buggy than the old one. It would not let me sync and it told me I had to pay an additional $120 a year to sync which I thought was just adding insult to injury. I paid a one month subscription for $9.99 in order to get the flights off my iPad. This strong arm tactic infuriated me, so I cancelled my subscription and changed to a different digital logbook and I am asking Apple to return my money. Thier tactics are extremely unprofessional and should not be rewarded. Please do not buy this app. It is WAY overpriced, not user friendly, and still quite buggy. Update: I detest this company so much, I thought I would write an update. I went to PilotPro after this companies gouging and their logbook is so much easier to use and has a much better layout. However, it was still a little buggy. Then Foreflight came out with a logbook in their program and it is nearly perfect. Extremely simple, better categorization, and easy to import and export. I am so glad I left LogTen Pro. They will never get another dime from me.
